2001 Ventura Girls Varsity Volleyball
Coach's Notes
| Sept 6 | At Camarillo | Elena DeAlba led the Cougars with 17 kills against Camarillo in their non-league opener. Other Cougar kill leaders were Sammy Gilden and Amanda Sandoval with 7 each and Nicole Randall with 6. Robyn Keune added 36 assists in 4 games. The Cougars are now 1-0 with the Cougar Classic coming up this weekend at VHS. |

| Oct 6 | At San Marcos Invitational | The Cougars performed well in the San Marcos Invitational beginning off with two wins against ranked Fountain Valley and San Luis Obispo. Also defeating Hemet High School. The Cougars defeated Sanger in the quarter-finals and fell in the semi-finals to Clovis West who won the tournament. The Cougars are able to add 3 more wins to their record improving their record to 13-0. (Due to the play-offs being only one game to 15 these will not count to their overall record.) All Tournament selection was Robyn Keune and awesome play by Sammy Gilden. |
| Oct 16 | Vs Santa Barbara | Ventura High School is continuing their undefeated play tonight in a match up with the Dons. The three games just taking 40 minutes to play. Venturas kill leaders were DeAlba and Gilden. Hernandez played good defense and added 4 serving aces. All 13 players contributed positively to the Cougar line-up. The Cougars are now 16-0 (4-0 in league)the best that coach Debra Litten can remember. I enjoy this team very much "winning comes expected with them". I hope we can improve our game to get ready for C.I.F play-offs. This is a very special group of girls. (Swimming is fun!) |
| Oct 23 | at Buena | Ventura had to overcome losing the first two games to win the match by winning three straight games. It was a great come back led by great seniors. The leadership of Robyn Keune and Elena DeAlba were key. Other team leaders include Sammy Gilden and Kayla Hernandez. Joni Young played her best match of the season. She was very instrumental in having the Cougars rally back. This continues the Cougars winning streak to 17-0. Coach Litten cannot remember a time when Ventura has had such a season. I am really proud of these girls all of them have contributed to this wonderful year. |
| Oct 26 | vs Dos Pueblos | The lady Cougars remain undefeated as they clench the Channel League title. Nicole Randall was Venturas kill leader with 13, Sammy Gilden had 7. Senior setter Robyn Keune led the team with 24 assists. Tonight was Senior Night for the Cougars and they will greatly miss all nine. In tonights match the Cougars played all 13 players. Good Job Cougars!! |
| Nov 1 | at Santa Barbara | Ventura has done it!!!!! They have gone the distance in the regular season staying undefeated at 20-0. The Cougars captured the league title for the first time at Ventura High. The next goal for the Cougars is the playoffs. Our goal is to make it to the finals. I know we can. Go Cougars!!! Great job on Santa Barbara Robyn, Sammy and Elena. All 13 players contributed again. Way to go! |
