San Marcos Earns Channel League Golf Championship
---
Santa Barbara WebSmith Staff April 24, 2001 Channel League play is not yet over, but San Marcos has claimed the Channel League Golf Championship. Not only are the Royals undefeated in league play (7-0), they are undefeated period (19-0). And, they took first place in both the Joe Barry Tournament in Sacramento and the Lompoc Tournament at La Purisima. The depth of the San Marcos team makes it difficult to say that they are led by any one player. John Poucher, Kevin Larson, Ryan Link and Tyler Ley have all been medalist in San Marcos games this year. It seems that anyone on the Royal roster can break par on any given day. Dos Pueblos (3-2-1, 9-3-1) holds second place in the league with two matches to go. Junior Jason Enriquez has led the squad this year, recording the Chargers low score 7 times this year. Senior Eric Crocker has claimed that honor on three occasions. Sophomore Sean King has led the Ventura Cougars (3-4, 7-6-1) this year including leading the way to a 409-410 victory over Dos Pueblos last week. Buena (2-3-1, 5-8-1) is currently in fourth and is led by Mike Ruffin and Tyson Briner. Santa Barbara has struggled this year (0-6, 1-8) but picked up a win against Newbury Park.
