| Santa Barbara WebSmith Staff April 4, 2001 Baseball With the first round of league games complete, Santa Barbara (9-3) heads the Channel League Baseball Standings with a perfect 4-0 record. Jonathan Combs has led the Dons' pitching staff in leauge play having given up 7 earned runs in 17 innings while striking out 15 and allowing only 5 walks. The Dons have outscored their league opponents 37-9. Dos Pueblos (3-1, 7-2) fell to the Dons 6-8 in their leauge opener but have since won three straight to claim second place in the league standings. The Chargers have demonstrated a potent offense having scored 50 runs in their four league games. The Cougars on Ventura started league play with wins against Buena and San Marcos, but evened up their record (2-2, 7-6) with loses to Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara. San Marcos (1-3, 1-6-2) holds fourth place by virtue of their win over Buena (0-4, 3-7-1).
Softball Buena (3-1, 8-5) holds second place in the standings having defeating San Marcos by one run and Ventura by two. The Bulldogs' next two games will be against crosstime rivals Ventrua. Despite outscoring their opponents 25-10, the Royals of San Marcos (2-2, 6-6) find themselves in third place in the Channel League. Ventura (1-3, 3-9) hold fourth place while the Santa Barbara Dons (0-4, 0-11) are looking to get their first win. |
