Boy's Basketball Race Tightens
---
Santa Barbara WebSmith Staff February 1, 2001 With just one and a half weeks left in the league schedule, there is a log jam at the top of the Channel League Boy's Basketball Standings. The top three teams have all registered two losses. Ventura sits atop the standings at 4-2 but Buena and Dos Pueblos are close on their heels at 3-2. Santa Barbara is one game back at 3-3. San Marcos (1-4), who picked up their win against Ventura, is not out of the race for a playoff spot. Ventura lost its strangle hold on the top spot when they lost a nail biter to the Buena Bulldogs last Friday 51-50. The Chargers, who have won three straight league games since dropping the first two, got back in the race with a win over Santa Barbara last night 60-55. Dos Pueblos will host Ventura on Friday evening in a critical game. The winner of that game will claim at least a share of first place in the league standings. Buena will play host to San Marcos in an effort to stay in the battle for first. Santa Barbara has a non-league match-up against Rio Mesa.
