Boy's Basketball
The Ventura Cougars (3-1, 13-8) sit on top of the Channel League Standings after the first half of the season. After opening the season with a 56-47 win over cross-town rival Buena (2-2, 13-8) the Cougars hosted San Marcos (1-2, 5-11) and picked up their only league loss so far. The Bulldogs are one game back along with the Santa Barbara Dons (2-2, 12-9). Buena picked up their two wins against San Marcos and Santa Barbara but fell to Dos Pueblos (1-2, 11-5). The Don's wins came in two close game against San Marcos (34-33) and a Dos Pueblos (66-61). The battle for second place will tighten on Wednesday when The Royals and Chargers play a make up game. Their game scheduled for Friday was postponed due to an underground fire near San Marcos High School. The winner of the make-up game will become the third team tied for second at 2-2.

Trey Putnam of Santa Barbara leads the scoring in the Channel League with 302 points. Steven Greybill has racked up 294 points for the Dos Pueblos Chargers while Trevor Robinson has earned 293 points for Ventura.

Girl's Basketball
The number one team in the Channel League is also the number one team in the nation according to USAToday and SchoolSports.com. The Buena Bulldogs (4-0,19-0) have dominated Channel League winning their four games by an average of 30.5 points. Their accomplishments this year include winning the prestigious Optimist Charity Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Three times have a claim on second place: Ventura (2-2,15-4), Santa Barbara (2-2,14-6) and San Marcos (2-2,10-9). The Don's were able to beat San Marcos 52-38 but fell to Ventura, 48-51. The Royals, however, were able to win their game with the Cougars 55-54. Dos Pueblos (0-4,5-15) has struggled during the first half of the season but is hoping to make a statement in the second half.

The Channel League scoring leader is Kelly Greathouse of Buena with 410 points. Araceli Gil has scored 310 for the Dons as the second highest scorer. The Bulldogs Courtney Young has recorded 300 points while Santa Barbara's Natalie Garcia has scored 299.
