Cross-Town Rivalries - North

Like their southern counter parts, the Santa Barbara Dons and San Marcos Royals also faced each other five times last week. Girl's Water Polo kicked off the contests and Santa Barbara High School where the Dons defeated the Royals 13-4. Miranda Nicoles scored five times for the Dons while molly Cahill added four more. Tanya Barnet led the Royals (0-1, 6-8) scoring with two goals. The CIF defending champion Dons also defeated Oxnard last week to run their record to 7-2-1. The Dons will take on Dos Pueblos on Tuesday and host Santa Margartia on Thursday before taking hosting the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions on Friday and Saturday at UCSB. San Marcos will travel to Ventura on Tuesday.

The Girl's Soccer teams took to the field next and San Marcos upset Santa Barbara 1-0, handing the Dons only their third loss on the season. Kelli Washburn accounted for the Royals' goal on a penalty kick. San Marcos (1-0-0, 8-5-2) will travel to Ventura on Tuesday and Buena on Thursday. The Dons (0-1-0, 10-3-2) will play Dos Pueblos on Saturday.

When the girls cleared the field, the boys took over the cross-town showdown. Again, the game was decided by a 1-0 score, but this time, Santa Barbara (17-1-2) was on the winning side. Ricardo Alcaraz scored the winning goal for the Dons. The Dons next take on Camarillo on Thursday and Dos Pueblos on Saturday. The Royals (0-1-0, 9-5-2) host Ventura on Tuesday and Buena on Thursday.

While the guys were finishing up their soccer match on the field, the girl's basketball teams were taking on each other in the Santa Barbara gym. Gil led the Dons with 28 points on way to a 52-38 victory over the San Marcos Royals. The Royals (0-1, 7-7) were led by Mandy Bible and Kirsten Ely who scored 11 points each. San Marcos will visit Ventura on Tuesday and host Buena on Thursday. The Dons (1-0, 12-4) take on Dos Pueblos on Tuesday and host Rio Mesa on Thursday.

On Friday, the boy's basketball teams met to finish off the cross-town rivalry games. The low scoring game went down to the wire before Dommanic Ingerson hit a basket with two seconds remaining to give the Dons a 34-33 win. Dante Bogan led the Dons (1-0, 10-7) with 11 points with Trey Putnam adding 8 more. Asher Kupperman was the game's high scorer with 13 points for the Royals (0-1, 4-8). The Royals travel to Lompoc on Monday before taking on Ventura and Buena later in the week. The Dons visit Dos Pueblos on Wednesday and Rio Mesa on Friday.
