The Ventura Cougars captured the school's first ever CIF Football Championship in with a 35-14 win over host Arroyo Grande. The Cougars jumped out to a 14-0 lead but surrendered two scores making the score 14-14 at half-time. In the third quarter, Andrew Lovier completed a 19 yard touchdown pass to Chris Foster to put the Cougars up 21-14. Tyler Ebell put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter on two touchdown runs of 73 and 40 yards.

Ebell added 284 yards and three touchdowns to his lofty totals giving him a total of 4,502 yards and 64 touchdowns on the season, the national single season records. He also surpassed the California career rushing yardage record with a total of 7,526 yards. The previous record was 7,357 by David Dobson of Valley View High School in Moreno Valley set from 1989 through 1991. Ebell has signed to play for UCLA next fall.

The Cougar's victory brings to three the number of CIF championship titles won by Channel League teams this year. Santa Barbara High School won the Girl's Volleyball and Boy's Water Polo titles last month. The Channel League set 22 teams and 15 individuals into CIF play for the fall season.
