Santa Barbara Wins CIF-SS Volleyball Championship
Santa Barbara WebSmith Staff November 19, 2000 The Santa Barbara Dons captured their first CIF-SS Championship on Saturday with a 3-2 win over South Torrance. The Don's lost the first two games of the match 10-15 and 11-15, but battled back to win the next three 15-13, 17-15 and 15-8. The victory comes in Coach Nan Verkaik's first year as girl's varsity coach. Santa Barbara's Jessica Harlin had a team high 22 kills along with 17 digs. Caitlyn Wilson contributed 21 kills. The championship victory was especially sweet for the Don's eleven seniors. Santa Barbara now advances on to the CIF State Championship as the number two seed in the Division Two South Bracket. The Dons will host a first round game against St. Joseph's of Lakewood on Tuesday the 21st at 7:00 pm. Congratulations to the Dons and good luck in the state tourney.
