Boy's Cross Country
The second Channel League meet was held at Arroyo Verde Park on Thursday. The Buena boy's took first place with a score of 48, moving to 8-0 in league competition. Aaron Torres (4th place, 17:23) led the Bulldogs who placed 5 finishers within the top 14 (7 within the top 17). The fastest times went to Phillip Kruttschnitt (1st place, 16:53) and Eric Kruttschnitt (2nd place, 16:57) of Dos Pueblos. The Chargers finished 2nd in the team competition with a score of 59 and moved into a second place tie in the Channel League Standings with Ventura at 5-3. Matt Gahr (3rd place, 17:17) finished first for the Cougars followed closely by Noel Silva (5th place, 17:48). Ventura scored 61 points to finish third for the day. Brian Kostock (7th place, 17:50) led San Marcos to a fourth place finish with a score of 81. Santa Barbara's (106 points) top finisher was Thomas Hallock (12th place, 18:24).
Girl's Cross Country
In the girl's race, Ventura (8-0) continued their dominance taking the first three places as well as 6th and 14th. The Cougars (1st place, 26 points) were led by Arile Keats (1st place, 20:51), Oriana Campbell (2nd place, 21:00) and Melissa Howery (3rd place, 21:04). Buena runners Rachel McDonald (4th place, 21:07) and Maegan McLean (5th place, 21:23) powered the Bulldogs to a second place finish (57 points). Gil Araceli placed 10th (21:53) to finish first for Santa Barbara who placed third with 85 points. San Marcos also finished with 85 points behind the effort of Kayla MacDuff (8th, 21:41) but was awarded fourth place based on the tiebreaker rule (top 6th place finisher). Krista Roessler (7th place, 21:34) led the way for Dos Pueblos (102 points).
Girl's Golf
La Reina (10-2, 13-3) scored two first place victories last week to close in on Dos Pueblos (9-1, 21-1). La Reina edged out DP by one stroke at Glen Annie on Thursday despite Charger Sarah Trenschel posting a par 35. Dos Pueblos, Nordhoff and San Marcos (5-5, 8-7) were rained out on Tuesday and will make up their match on Monday. Nordhoff (6-4, 8-7) holds third place in the league standings after taking first in their match Thursday at Rancho San Marcos against Carpinteria (3-9, 5-12) and Santa Barbara (0-12, 1-16)
Girl's Tennis
Santa Barbara (5-0, 8-5) established their grip on first place with wins over Buena (3-2, 8-3) and San Marcos (0-5, 1-11). Buena, who began the week tied for first, also fell in a rematch with crosstown rival Ventura (3-2, 8-2), ending the week tied for second with the Cougars. Dos Pueblos' (1-3, 3-8) sole league match last week was a victory over San Marcos.
Girl's Volleyball
The girl's volleyball standings are headed up by Santa Barbara (3-0, 7-4) which outlasted visiting Ventura (2-2, 6-2) on Thursday night 3-2. Buena (2-1, 5-4) was also on the road Thursday, coming home victorious over the Dos Pueblos Chargers with a 3-0 win. San Marcos was idle in league play this week but placed 5th in the Torrey Pines Tournament in San Diego.
Boy's Water Polo
Water Polo kicked off with a battle for first place when Ventura hosted Dos Pueblos. The Chargers (3-0, 14-6) came away with a 7-6 victory. The Cougars (3-1, 9-1), however, rebound to defeat Santa Barbara (1-2, 12-7) on Thursday in another 1 point game, 9-8. Santa Barbara posted two non-league wins over Oxnard and Righetti. San Marcos (1-2, 10-9-1) posted their first league win with a victory over Buena (0-3, 3-14). Buena also suffered a loss to Dos Pueblos on Thursday.
