| Santa Barbara WebSmith Staff September 30, 2000 Ventura faced their toughest opponent yet in non-league play as they played host to Arroyo Grande. Ventura's three previous opponents had managed to score a total of only 12 points against the Cougar defense. By half-time AG matched Ventura's 14 points with 14 of their own. However, that would be the end of it for AG. Tyler Ebell, on the other hand, was just getting started - adding four more touchdowns in the second half to the two he garnered in the first. In the 41-14 win, Ebell carried the ball 44 times for 393 yards, bringing his season total to 1406 yards. Ventura, 4-0, will take their potent offense and stingy defense on the road against Oxnard next Friday. Buena won their third straight game by a score of 34-26 over Camarillo. Andrew Paulson was 13-16 in the air for 154 yards. While Freddie Keiaho carried the ball 26 times for 242 yards, bringing his four game total to 584 yards. Buena enjoyed a slight 7-6 lead at half time, and managed to make it 14-6 by the end of the third quarter. But in the fourth quarter both offenses broke loose as each team put 20 points on the board. The 3-1 Bulldogs next test will be a big one as they travel to Paso Robles on Friday. Santa Barbara continued with the toughest non-league schedule of any school in the Channel League. Unfortunately, the Dons were unable to put any points on the board against Division 1 powerhouse Loyola in the 45-0 loss. Matthew threw for 33 yards on seven completions out of 13 attempts. David Garcia managed 27 yards rushing. Life doesn't get much easier for the 1-3 Dons this week as they travel to Righetti this Friday. Righetti proved to be Dos Pueblos nemesis this week. The Chargers held a 7-0 half time lead at Valley Stadium, but couldn't manage any more points in the second half while Righetti added 13 in both the third and fourth quarters. Shane Lopes continued his air dominance completing 13 of 31 for 160 yards. Corey Sanchez was the recipient of four of those tosses for a total of 83 yards. Dos Pueblos, now 2-2 will travel to Carpinteria on Friday. San Marcos has an extra day's rest this week as they saw action against Oxnard on Thursday. A 7-6 first quarter lead held up for the Royals until the fourth quarter when the Yellow Jackets added 14 to San Marcos' seven to take a 20-14 win. Javier Perales, Ari Mangham and Joe Contreras shared the QB duties and combined for eight completions on 11 attempts for 94 yards. Andres Vines rushed for 49 yards on 11 carries. San Marcos' Homecoming will be celebrated at Valley Stadium on Friday as they take on the Pirates of Santa Ynez.
