| Dons Lose a Hard Fought Volleyball Match to Oxnard |

| Santa Barbara WebSmith Staff September 12, 2000 Sporting one of its best teams in years, Oxnard strode into the Santa Barbara Gym and took home a 3-1 victory. Oxnard was led by Senior Sarah Morrison who has signed a letter of intent to play at Cal State Fullerton. Game one could not have been more closely contested as the score was tied at 1,3,5,7,8,9,11,12,14 and 15 before Oxnard managed a 17-15 win. Game two saw the Dons fall behind 7-2 until before going on a 5-0 run behind the serving of Senior Kristen Kiefer to tie it at seven. Santa Barbara went on to win game two 15-11. Game three continued the seesaw battle with Santa Barbara leading most of the way, in the end however, Oxnard squeaked out another 2 point win 15-13. In game four, however, Oxnard took control, jumping out to a five one lead. After giving up one point to Santa Barbara, Oxnard served for 10 straight points winning game four 15-2. "It wasn't a good time to be playing below are best," said coach Nan Verkaik. "Oxnard played well. We knew they would be good because they had a strong JV team last year, but for whatever reason, we were not prepared. - But we will be for our next match." Caitlyn Wilson led Santa Barbara with 10 kills followed by Jessica Harlin with 9. Kristin Kiefer had a 100% hitting average. Harlin also had 19 digs, while Shannon Brooker contributed 16 digs and 5 stuff blocks. Ashley Israel added another 14 digs to the effort.
