Dons Open Tennis Season With A Win Against Agoura
Santa Barbara WebSmith Staff September 8, 2000 The Santa Barbara Don's (1-0) took on the Agoura Chargers yesterday to open 2000 play and came away with an 11-7 win. Despite Yassie Enterala of Agoura taking all three of her matches (6-3, 6-2, 6-0), Santa Barbara edged out Agoura 5-4 in singles play. Courtney Armstrong took 2 of three matches defeating Maggie Cahil 6-1 and Hilary Povar 6-0. Lindsey Steele also took 2 of three defeating the same two Chargers 6-2, 6-2. The final singles point was earned by Alyssa Newton with a 6-2 victory over Hilary Povar. In doubles play, Perrin Cox and Lauren DiSalvo swept their three matches (6-3, 6-2, 6-0) leading Santa Barbara to a 6-3 win in doubles action. Katelyn Gamson and Whitney Wilde picked up two more points with wins over Stephanie Havseal/Elissa Reizman (6-3) and Sophie Joh/Candice Hahn (6-1). They nearly made it another sweep, losing to Shelby Feely/Leah Kirsch by a score of 5-7. Katie Bank and Hillary Hufford picked up the final point by blanking Joh and Hahn 6-0. The Don's next contest will be on Wednesday, September 13th, at 2:20 pm when they host Cate.
